The shooting for the Raghu Mukherjee and Shubha Punja-starrer Meenakshi began recently at the Kanteerava Studios.

The movie is directed by Sridhar Hegde and is based on the issue of real estate scams, with a generous dose of romance as well.

Talking about the movie, Raghu Mukherjee says, “This character is very challenging. At every point, there is a twist and turn. The audience won’t be able predict the story of the movie. And as an actor, if I get to portray two different shades — one of a lover and another a cheater — in a single movie, there is nothing like it!”

Sridhar Hegde is embarking on his journey as a director with this movie. Previously, he has worked as a corporate and documentary film-maker.

Talking about his directorial debut, he admits to being optimistic and adds that he believes in the capability of the actors.

He says, “Though the movie is triggered by real estate, it is prominently a love story. To enact the role of Amith Dhanpal, I wanted a very handsome guy, and I could not think of anybody except Raghu Mukherjee. For the role of Meenakshi, I needed an innocent girl and Shubha Punja fitted the bill perfectly. I believe the audience will react positively to the movie.”

Shubha Punja, who has donned various roles in her previous movies, feels that this flick is going to be entirely different.

She says, “I think this movie is one of its kind. Never before has such a film been made in the Kannada industry. The script attracted me to the film. There is a lot of scope for acting in it. I get to play a role that has two shades. The audience has been very receptive to all my other movies and I hope the same will stay true with Meenakshi too.”

The movie is scheduled to release in March next year and will be prominently shot in Karnataka.
