Even though the release of Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu was stopped at 7.30 pm on Monday hundreds of farmers — led by MLAs and ex-MLAs — thronged the dam premises in the evening. They were eager to know if the water outflow was reduced.

A section of the farmers staged a protest demonstration even after the water was stopped, urging for compensation for crop loss.

Even the Mandya Jilla Raitha Hitharakshana Samithi has said the protests would continue as the Cauvery River Authority is scheduled to meet shorty and the Supreme Court is also expected to take up the case and there was a need to exert pressure on the state government to present the case properly before the fora. At 6.30 pm on Monday, the water level at the dam stood at 104.92 feet against the maximum level of 124.80 feet. The inflow of water to the dam was recorded at 5,258 cusecs while the out flow was 9,873. After 7.30 pm only 5,100 cusecs of water was released for irrigation needs of farmlands in the state. However, farmers representatives were not allowed to enter the dam premises to check the outflow of water.
