A day after a 30-year-old woman submitted a complaint of dowry harassment at New Ashok Nagar police station in east Delhi, she was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her house on Monday, said a police officer.

Kajol Gupta, a resident of New Ashok Nagar, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room on Monday morning. Her husband, Yogesh Gupta, informed police about the incident.
“We rushed to the spot and found her hanging. She was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where she was declared brought dead,” said a police officer. No suicide note was found.

Kajol got married to Yogesh 13 years ago, and they have three children.  The deceased’s brother, Vijay, alleged that his sister’s in-laws used to harass her for dowry. “I spoke to my sister on Sunday and she was unhappy, over which she went to the police station and filed a complaint,” Vijay alleged.

“After the complaint was filed and she was ready to leave her husband’s house, then why would she hang herself? Her in-laws and husband killed her and then hanged her,” Vijay added.

A police officer probing the case said the victim had filed a complaint of harassment with the police station, but whether she was killed or she committed suicide can only be kno-
wn after the post-mortem report.

Police found that the victim had earlier also tried to commit suicide by consuming sedatives.
“We had received a complaint from the victim. We are investigating the case and questioning people,” said the officer.
