The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will provide technical assistance to builders and apartment owners in the City to set up biogas plants and 'waste-to-energy' units.

The Palike has tied up with the Karnataka State Bio Fuel Development Board to offer technical support to the bulk garbage generators, including builders and apartment owners, Palike Commissioner Rajneesh Goel told a delegation of Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Association of India (Credai) at the Palike head office on Thursday.

He said builders should set a deadline for establishing the units. “It is binding on developers and owners of the apartments which came up after 2006 to set up waste disposal mechanism in their projects, based on which the occupancy certificate was given. We are now insisting that they make the system operational,” said Goel.

The Palike will host a technology seminar on October 28 for builders and apartment owners on scientific waste disposal system in their areas. Information would be provided on different garbage disposal solutions based on the size and location of the apartments.

Sushil Mantri, president of Credai, said that by December 31 apartments would have their own waste disposal mechanisms.
