The main aim of the event was to spread traffic awareness wherein children were asked to paint their perception of traffic issues in the city, Chairman of fund raising committee of Vadodara Marathon Company (VMC) and managing director of Jyoti Ltd, Tejal Amin said.

Currently Philippines holds the record for the world's longest painting (2.95 km canvas), she said. The drawing session was part of a build up to a 21 km long marathon event to be organised here on November 22, she said.

City mayor and BJP MP Balkrishna Shukla said, "I appreciate efforts of VMC in initiating a project on traffic and happy to learn about 8,000 children taking part in sketching world's longest painting which will find its place in the Guinness Book of World Records." As many as 25 Non Government Organisations (NGOs) have come forward to form Vadodara Marathon Company to raise funds for the projects, Amin said.

It is perhaps the first such  company formed in the state with an aim to undertake various projects concerning the people of the city, Commissioner of Police Rakesh Asthana said. This year it has decided to undertake a project for addressing the problems of traffic congestion in various parts of the city, he said.

The marathon will be organised in association with Vadodara Traffic Education Trust (VTET) which has tied up with the city police for manning traffic at several crucial junctions.
