The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has said the Centre will continue to bear three-fourth of the expenses for setting up 6,000 model schools at the block level during the year 2012-13, while the rest will be borne by the states.
An official release said an amount of Rs 1,080 crore has been allocated for the scheme for the year 2012-13. Any financial liability arising due to continuation of the sharing pattern will be taken care of within the said allocation. With each school accommodating 560 students, a total of 19.60 lakh students in 3,500 schools will be benefitted.
Till March 2012, a total of 1,954 model schools were approved in 22 states and Rs 1790.76 crore was sanctioned for setting up 1,587 such schools in 21 states.
