Two students drown at Bengre Kasaba

Dasara holidays turned out to be a tragedy for families of two boys, as they met with watery grave in Phalguni river, at Bengre Kasaba in Mangalore on Saturday.

According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Nameer (14) son of Basheer and Marzook (13) son of Ameer.

Marzook was studying in eighth standard at Government High School, Bengre, while Nameer was studying in ninth standard at Badriya School, Kandak.

The incident occurred at around 1 pm when the duo, along with four other students, was playing in water.

An eye witness said that two of the boys slowly swam towards the deep water. However, they could not swim back to safety and drowned

Though local swimmers rushed to the rescue, it was of no use. The bodies were traced with the help of lifeguards from Tannirbavi and Panambur police.

The boys went regularly  swimming. A case has been registered.
