Cultural treat awaits connoisseurs

Violin recital by L Subramanyam and party, Chennai, jugalbandi by actor Sridhar and Anuradha Sridhar couple from Bangalore, dance ballet by another noted actor and danseuse Manju Bhargavi and troupe, Carnatic music recital by Malladi brothers from Hyderabad, bhavageethe by playback singer Lakshmi Nataraj, light music by Shamita Malnad, ghazals by Talat Aziz and musical extravaganza by singer Vijay Prakash of ‘Jai Ho’ fame.

These are some of the programmes by acclaimed artistes, who will be enthralling the connoisseurs of music in the city, at Dasara Cultural programmes starting from October 16 to 21.

Addressing media in the city on Sunday, chairman of the sub-committee A Hemanth Kumar said apart from the Palace premises, the programmes will be held at different auditoria in the city; Jaganmohan Palace, Nadabrahma, Kalamandira, Ganabharathi and also Kuppanna Park.

The concerts at the Palace will begin with L Subramanyam on the inaugural day at 7.30 pm. Chief minister Jagadish Shettar will inaugurate the programmes. The programmes on the following days are as follows;

October 17: Bhavageethe by Lakshmi Nataraj and troupe, 6 pm. Odissi dance by Rathikanth Mahopatra and troupe, Odisha, 7.30 pm.

October 18: Karnataka Police Band, 6 pm, Carnatic classical music by Malladi Brothers, Hyderabad, 7.30 pm.

October 19: Orchestra by T A S Mani, Bangalore, 6 pm. Ghazals by noted playback singer Talat Aziz, Mumbai, 7.30 pm.

October 20: Hindustani vocal by Arati Ankliker, Pune, 6 pm and Bharatnatyam by Lakshmi Gopalaswamy and troupe, Bangalore, 7.30 pm.

October 21: Sooryaninda Chandranadege (dawn to dusk) musical programme of all art forms, 6.30 am to 6 pm. ‘Gaana, Nritya and Kuncha’ by local artistes, 6 pm. Light music by Shamita Malnad and troupe, Bangalore, 7.30 pm.

October 22: Dance variety by Anjana B Ram and troupe, Mysore, 6 pm and Santoor by Shivakumar Sharma, Mumbai, 7.30 pm.

October 23: Music variety by Vijay Prakash and troupe, Mumbai, 7.30 pm.


Other venues

If that was about palace programmes, prominent artistes performing at other venues are as follows; 

October 16: dance ballet by Nandi Eshwar’s Raas Indian Art Foundation, Mysore, Jagan Mohan Palace, 8 pm.

October 20: Dance jugalbandi by Sridhar and Anuradha Sridhar couple, Bangalore, 8 pm.
October 21: dance ballet by Manju Bhargavi and troupe, Bangalore, 8 pm  at the same venue.

Vice-president of the sub-committee and the founder of Bhushan Centre for Performing Arts Badri Divyabhooshan said ‘dawn to dusk’ music programme is an unique concept and also planned for the first time.

A total of 1,000 artistes; vocal to percussionists from folk to traditional and almost all art forms will be showcasing their talent throughout the day. He exuded confidence that the concept will strike a chord with the connoisseurs of music.

Deputy special officer of the sub-committee C G Betsurmath said the Kannada and culture department is yet to finalise the name of the recipient of Sangeetha Vidwan award.
