Army continues rescue operation

Army columns that moved out from Maratha Light Infantry, Belgaum and the MEG Centre from Bangalore are continuing their assistance to the district administration in Gadag where Ron and Nargund taluks are badly affected with villages cut off and marooned in water.
The Air Force conducted sorties on Day 2 of operation to rescue stranded people and drop food packets in affected areas.

The Meteorological department of Air Force station, Yelahanka has also been activated to assist civic authorities in respect of weather monitoring and warning round-the-clock.
 Eight Mi-8s and six Chetaks were moved from the airbases across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

IAF choppers distributed about 22 tonnes of relief material to the people in the flood affected areas and flew about 60 sorties on Saturday, rescuing and moving about 50 people to safer places.

The relief operations will continue on Sunday too.
