Nine bonded labourers released in Malur

Six adults and three children from Odisha, working as bonded labourers, were released from a brick factory at Channakallu on Wednesday. Hanumantharaya, tahsildar, led the raid.

Janaki Chhatria, 42, Nalini Chhatria, 30, Bilasini Chhatria, 25, Trinath Chhatria, 50, Sahul Chhatria, Dayanidhi Sahul as well as children Rekhashri, 15, Lidhu Chhatria and Lipun Chhatria had been employed by Devaraju, owner of the factory the last six months.

Their relatives in Odisha had complained that the workers had been forced into bonds.
The raid followed an order by the DC, who received the complaint and told the tahsildar to inspect the matter.
