A body of a woman aged around 25 was found in a plastic sack near a dustbin in north-west Delhi’s Wazipur on Thursday morning, police said.

“We received the call around 8:40 am after a ragpicker found a body in a plastic sack lying near the dustbin,” said a senior police officer.

She told police that she was picking through garbage near a medical shop at block K in Wazipur when she saw a plastic sack and untied it to find a body inside.

She informed local people who then called the police control room.

During investigation, police found that there was no injury mark on the body.

“Prima facie it seems the victim might be strangled and later dumped near the dustbin,” said P Karunakaran, deputy commissioner of police.

Police added that the victim might have been killed two days ago, but dumped late on Wednesday night.

The body has been sent to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital to preserve it for the next 72 hours, said the officer.

A murder case has been registered with Bharat Nagar police station.

Police are taking the help of zonal integrated police network and website containing details of missing persons to identify her.

Her picture has been sent to various police stations and people living in neighbouring areas are being questioned.

“We are also quizzing autorickshaw drivers of the area for any clue in the case. It is first important to identity the victim,” said the officer.
