BBMP raids meat, poultry shops

The Animal husbandry department of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Saturday raided several meat and poultry shops in the City and slapped penalties and notices for running them illegally.

The Joint Director of the Animal Husbandry department, Dr Parvez Ahmad Piran, on Saturday received a complaint about illegal slaughtering at a public place in Srinagar, following which he raided the place. He found a meat shop violating the norms, for which he gave a warning.

Further, he raided three pig sties at Hebbal and surrounding areas, which were running illegally. He slapped penalties and notices on the owners and directed them to vacate the place within 15 days, failing which stringent measures would be initiated against them, including legal action. Dr Piran said pig rearing was not allowed within the City limits under the KMC Act.
