A shatterday for Poojary, Cong

After a gap of 10 years he contested again in 2009, against Nalin Kumar Kateel (BJP), a political novice, whose age is less than that of Janardhan Poojary’s experience in politics.
A majority of people opined that it would be a easy victory for Congress because Nalin was a new face to the common people of the constituency. The BJP top brass too were not very confident of their victory, though they now claim otherwise.

On the other hand, it was ‘do or die’ for Poojary as well as the Congress because they (Congress) very well knew that if they can’t make it this time, they can not in near future.

When Poojary realised that the difference of votes was increasing, he briskly visited all the counting rooms, spent a minute or two in each room and left the venue much before the counting was over. Several people felt sorry for the veteran who once lived in the hearts of thousands of people in the coast. In fact, several policemen saluted him. But Poojary was not in a position to digest the defeat.
