Excise officials visit JP Nagar

Last Updated 25 October 2012, 19:55 IST

A day after Deccan Herald reported the nuisance caused to residents of J P Nagar VI  Phase, by customers of a bar, Inspector (Excise) K J Sandeep and Sub-Inspector (Excise) Subramani visited the locality on Thursday to take stock of the situation.

The residents demanded that the licences of the bars and liquor stores in and around the vicinity should be cancelled.

“The local police and the Excise department blame each other,” said Vagdevi, a resident.
Sandeep said that any direct offences related to bars such as consumption of liquor in public come under the purview of the Excise department and suitable action will be taken against offenders.

“Law and order, however, comes under the purview of the police,” he added.
“A detailed report has been sent to the seniors and they will take the necessary steps,” said Sandeep.

“We have sent several copies of letters to the commissioner and run from pillar to post to solve the problem. But nothing has happened so far,” said an agitated Vagdevi.

The Excise officials denied the residents’ allegations that the bars in question are located within 100 metres of a school.

Excise Commissioner Dr Somashekhar told Deccan Herald that his deputy will visit the locality.
