Police seize gold, silver worth RS 40 lakh, nab 2

The Chikmagalur police nabbed a team which had looted two jewellery showrooms at Sakharayapatta, and Belagoor in Chitradurga recently, and seized gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 40 lakh.

Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police Shashikumar said that the arrested are Madhu from Arasikere, Rangappa from Hosadurga and Ramesh from Tarikere. The police are looking for another accused Esha.

The police have seized 31.500 kg silver ornaments, 510 gram gold ornaments stolen from Kaveri jewellery in Sakharayapattana, on October 1 and 7.775 gram silver and 90 gram gold ornaments stolen from a jewellery shop at Belagoor on September 5. The police have also seized car, two bikes, oxygen cylinder, gas cylinder, gas cutter and pipes from the accused.

The SP announced reward of Rs 10,000 for the police personnel who nabbed the case.
The accused were also involved in 11 other theft cases in Hassan, Davangere and Shimoga.
