Police opened fire at a notorious rowdy Thursday evening and injured him in his right leg after he attacked a head constable near BDA complex at Koramangala on Thursday evening.

The suspect, George, who is facing several charges of murder, attempts to murder and robberies, was rushed to Victoria Hospital and the injured head constable, Suresh, 40, attached to the Koramangala police station, has been admitted to St John’s Hospital.
Police have taken in two of George’s associates, Satish and Stephen.

Background

According to Madiwala police, two notorious gangs, led by Bubli and Kanni, are active in Viveknagar, Madiwala and Adugodi areas.

Each gang has over 10 rowdies involved in murders, attempts to murder, robberies, extortion and thefts. They often locked horns with each and posed a challenge to the police.

Lokesh, a close aide of Bubli, was hacked to death a year ago by Kanna and his nine associates, including Anand Raj and Nandagopal. Bubli was waiting for an opportunity to settle scores with Kanna and his men. On October 28, Bubli, who was tipped off about the presence of Anand Raj and Nandagopal in 8th Block Koramangala, directed his associates George, Satish, Kiran, Stephen and Sunil to attack them. The gang rushed to Koramangala and attacked Anand Raj and Nandagopal with lethal weapons, leaving the duo severely injured.

Tip-off

Subanna, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Madiwala sub-division, told Deccan Herald on Thursday: “The police constituted a special squad to arrest the suspects. The team was headed by Koramangala police station inspector Prashanth Babu. We received tip-offs that George, Satish and Stephen were hiding in Mestripalya, Koramangala.

“We intercepted them around 7.45 pm near BDA complex and directed them to surrender, but they failed to follow the order. Suresh, the head constable, tried to catch them, but George, brandishing a weapon, chased him. Inspector Babu opened one round of fire in the air, but George attacked Suresh with the weapon. Then, he fired at him again for self-defence,” Subanna said.

Satish and Stephen, aged between 25 and 30 years, were also taken into police custody.
