<p>A DU student was shot dead in central Delhi’s Patel Nagar after he and his relatives went to settle an unprovoked attack by the accused on Thursday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Manish Singh Chaudhary, 21, was a second year student of Motilal Nehru College who lived with his family at Shiv Chowk in Ranjit Nagar. According to police, Manish and his brother Sushil had gone for a walk after dinner around 9 pm.<br /><br />“They were eating ice-creams at a road-side stall near Sanjay Jat’s home in south Patel Nagar when Sanjay came there with his brother Rahul,” a police official said.<br /><br />It is alleged that Sanjay and Rahul beat up Manish and Sushil without being provoked. Manish and Sushil then returned home and informed their father Rajvir, 45.<br /><br />“Rajvir further informed his brothers — Deepak and Bunty — and nephew Sandeep, and went to Sanjay’s house with Manish and Sushil,” the official added.<br /><br />There they got involved in a heated argument, after which Sanjay and Rahul armed themselves with a pistol, a sword and a rod. “Sanjay opened fire at Manish, while Rahul attacked Rajvir with a sword. Sushil and Sandeep were also injured in the attack,” the official said.<br /><br />In his statement to police, Rajvir claimed that Sanjay opened fire after being told by his mother Saroj, 48. He also alleged that she got him bitten by their pet dogs.<br /><br />All the injured were rushed to BLK Memorial Hospital on Pusa Road, where Manish was declared brought dead due to multiple gunshot wounds. “Rajvir, Sushil and Sandeep were discharged after treatment. It is alleged that Rajvir’s head was slashed with a sword which left a deep cut,” the official added.<br /><br />In a turn of events, Sanjay later admitted himself at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital with a gunshot wound on his shoulder.<br /><br />Sanjay’s family alleged that he was shot at after the incident by people known to Manish. They further claimed that Manish’s family members and locals damaged their property and Skoda Laura car.<br /><br />A case of murder, attempt to murder and causing hurt has been lodged with Ranjit Nagar police station over Rajvir’s statement. Police arrested Sanjay’s mother Saroj and plan to arrest Sanjay after he is discharged from hospital.<br /><br />Manish is survived by his mother Kashmiri, brothers Sushil and Ankush, and sister Kavita. His father Rajvir has a box manufacturing business at Ranjit Nagar.<br /><br /></p>
