2 more held in Rs 5 cr heist

Defence Colony loot: Another accused still at large

Two more persons have been arrested in connection with the Rs 5.25 crore heist in Defence Colony in September. At least Rs 13.50 lakh and documents of cash transactions done on behalf of one of the main accused were also recovered.

Deputy commissioner of police (south) Chhaya Sharma said the accused Ram Singh alias Ramesh, 30, a resident of Mandawali, and 32-year-old Ajay, of West Vinod Nagar are close friends of Yogesh, who is still at large.

Money recovered

The two were held from their houses on Friday — Rs 10 lakh was recovered from Ram, and Rs 3.50 lakh from Ajay. The breakthrough came after questioning another accused Rumal, who had earlier worked as a police informer.

“During interrogation, Ram and Ajay confessed to have received around Rs 25 lakh from Yogesh for investment on his behalf in property. Some documents of property have also been seized, which prove that investment was made on Yogesh’s behalf,” Sharma said.

Both accused told police that Yogesh came to them a day after the incident and handed over Rs 25 lakh to make investment on his behalf.

Ram said Yogesh instructed him to invest in a plot in Burari and a flat in Mayur Vihar.
“Yogesh had worked under Ram as construction supervisor before he committed
the robbery. Ajay was also working with Yogesh,” Sharma added.

It has come to light that Yogesh had developed intimacy with a woman associated with construction activities under Ram.

Efforts are being made to verify as to whether Yogesh used the woman for further disposal of the robbed money.

“Out of Rs 25 lakh given to both of the accused, the rest of the amount was used in paying off Ram’s financial obligations in the market,” Sharma said.

It has also been revealed that Yogesh may have delivered some cash — Rs 50 lakh not recovered so far — to his friends before leaving Delhi without even giving description of contents of bag to them.

Police have advised them to surrender the cash if they are not aware of its source to avoid prosecution.
