Internationally acclaimed Iranian director Majid Majidi, known for his movies like “The Song of Sparrows” and “Children of Heaven”, has sought permission from the Indian government to shoot portions of his next venture, based on the early life of Prophet Mohammad, in the country.
Official sources said, a request by a Mumbai-based production house, which acts as Majidi’s local line producer, was sent to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry last month for granting permission.
“The filmmaker wants to shoot portions of his next venture in Rajasthan. However, it all depends on the Information and Broadcasting Ministry which after consultation with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs will decide on the request,” a source said. The producers said, though they have approached India, they are also in touch with other countries.
