He has created an almost unassailable record of registering nine consecutive victory in the assembly elections-eight times from Gurmitkal (SC) and once from Chittapur (SC) constituencies. And now he has registered the tenth one by winning the Gulbarga (SC) parliamentary constituency.

Kharge, though was reluctant to be in the fray for parliamentary elections, as he was interested to remain in State politics, had to oblige the party high command, as he was found to be the only match for the BJP nominee Revu Naik Belamagi.

Belamagi, who has won four times in a row from Gulbarga Grameen Assembly seat had to taste defeat at the hands of Kharge in the parliamentary elections. For the irrepressible former chief minister N Dharam Singh it is a most welcome comeback.
Singh has staged a comeback at the earliest available opportunity. By offering himself to contest from Bidar parliamentary constituency Singh had virtually ran a risk.

However, blessed with enormous luck Dharam Singh braving heavy odds registered a thumping victory.

Dharam Singh who had consecutively won eight times from Jewargi Assembly constituency had met his Waterloo on the ninth occasion by losing with a slender margin of 52 votes in the 2008 Assembly elections.

It is said that both Kharge and Singh or one of them has a good chance of securing a berth in the new Congress-led UPA government headed by Manmohan Singh.
