Panel yet to be formed on parking lot at Lalbagh

The Horticulture Department has not yet set up the panel of environmentalists who would decide the fate of the car parking lot planned inside the Lalbagh.

The department had drawn a plan to build a car parking area on five acres, out of 240 acres of Lalbagh, and had started the work.

The work was in its final stage when vehement protests broke out and the department had to drop the plan.

Now, it has decided to constitute a panel of experts, which would decide the future of the project.

As per the decision taken by the department, there will be an environmentalist, a botanist and a representative of the Geological Survey of India on the panel. The department expects that a decision to this effect would be taken by Thursday.

Meanwhile, contrary to the claims made by the horticulture authorities that the work had been put on hold, construction activities continued in the area and trucks were seen ferrying soil and other building material inside Lalbagh, complained some visitors.
