Two persons have been nabbed in the Capital for posing as Intelligence Bureau and Research and Analysis Wing officials and carrying out various frauds. But police remained silent over the frauds conducted.

Puneet Wadhwa and Asghar Ali were apprehended on Tuesday and various fake identity cards were recovered from them.

The incident came to light on Tuesday around 1:30 pm when Puneet Wadhwa of Guru Teg Bahadur Enclave went to Okhla Industrial Area at a Vodafone office posing as a RAW official.

Wadhwa told the employees there that he was a RAW employee and gave them a letter purportedly signed by A Khan, ‘director’ of the agency.

It stated that the company has to provide call details of a mobile number for various months.

The company officials then called up RAW to verify the demand made by them.
They found that there was no person named Wadhwa working with the agency, nor had they demanded call details of any mobile number.

The officials then asked Wadhwa to produce his identity card and engaged him in talk.
Wadhwa confidently showed them his identity card which displayed that he was working with the Intelligence Bureau.

Vodafone officials informed police who rushed to the office and nabbed Wadhwa.
After verification, police found that he was a fraud.

Intelligence officials and local police grilled Wadhwa and found that one of his friends was also involved in similar cases and was using fake identity cards to get his work done.

Another fraud caught

On Wadhwa’s insistence, Asghar Ali of Laxmi Nagar was nabbed in Karol Bagh.
Both are being questioned by police and the agency officials.

When asked about the frauds done by them, police said they are still verifying the facts.
Police remained silent over the issue and refused to divulge more details.

“It is too early to say anything and we are still questioning them. We have recovered various fake identity cards from them,” said a police officer.
