The previous government had demoted Mudigere Town Municipality into a Town Panchyat citing the reason that the population does not exceed 10,000.
Welcoming government’s decision, Mudigere Town Panchayat vice president G B Dharmapal said that more development works can be taken up, once the town gets a Municipality status. State government has already released Rs 45 lakh to Public Works Department to convert Beloor Road in the town into two-lane, he said. Government also has released Rs 60 lakh for the development of Santhe Maidana market in the town.
