“So far, we have not decided on anything. The UPA has not sought our support. If UPA seeks the support, we have an open mind... But going by the number the UPA has, it looked like that it (Congress) does not require the support of smaller parties,” he told reporters after the election results were announced. Asked to reveal details of his recent meeting with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, he said it is now irrelevant under the present circumstances. “My first enemy is the BJP. If the UPA seeks my co-operation to scuttle the growth of the BJP, I am willing to extend it,” he added.

Meanwhile, reacting to the poll results, the JD(S) Spokesperson Y S V Datta said though the results have not been up to the expectation, they have been satisfactory to the party. The JD(S) has been able to win three seats fighting against two national parties of the BJP and the Congress, he said. None of the two national parties can claim a big victory. While the Congress received a drubbing, the BJP won only 19 seats though it is in power . The JD(S), which had only two seats in 2004, has increased its number to three,  he said.
