City’s bicycle lovers have a reason to rejoice, as three more units of ‘Hire a Bicycle’ will be set up at Public Utility Building, Anil Kumble Circle and Brigade Road-Residency Road junction by month- end.

Now, the facility is available at the MG Road, Trinity Circle and Ulsoor Namma Metro stations.

Automated Tracking and Control of Green Assets (ATCAG), which has provided the facility, has a tie-up with the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

Chairperson of Kerberon Automations, Syed Haseeb Arafat, the man behind ATCAG, said benefits of renting a bicycle can be maximised if the users are provided with the option of bike stands.

“By month-end, the facility will be provided at remaining stations along Reach-1 such as Indiranagar, SV Road and Baiyyappanahalli. With this, the number of units will go up to nine,” he said.

A registration point at each of the units will help the interested people avail the service, he added.

As stands have been constructed at Metro stations, a bicycle enthusiast can pick and park a bicycle at any of the stations. Once the services are operationalised at all the nine points, as many as 60 bicycles and 120 parking slots will be available for the users, said Arafat.

Users’ response

Though the facility was launched only a few weeks ago, there has been a gradual increase in the number of people using bicycles, he added.

Arafat noted that software professionals whose offices were located in and around MG Road were using the bicycles in greater numbers now,“We are getting good response to our online portal, wherein public can register for the service by producing necessary documents,” he said.
