'Start judicial probe into Odisha encounter'

Last Updated 15 November 2012, 19:15 IST

Describing the Wednesday’s gunbattle between the police and Maoists at Mohana in Odisha’s Gajapati district as a “fake encounter”, activists have strongly demanded a judicial probe into the incident.

“There should be a judicial probe into this fake police encounter and persons responsible for the incident should be punished,” said activist Prafulla Samantaray.

They (the activists) have also demanded financial compensation for the family members of those who were killed in the gun battle.

The police had shot dead five Maoists during the encounter and all of them were identified as residents of Kandhamal district. The killed red rebels were members Odisha Maoists’ Party(OMP), a newly floated Maoist outfit headed by Sabyasachi Panda, the most wanted Maoist leader in Odisha.
