Govind M Karjol, Minister for Kannada and Culture launched Janapada Parishath’s portal www.jaanapadaloka.org in Bangalore, on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Karjol said the State government has spent Rs 70 lakh — in the current year — for the development of folklore in the State.

“During the next budget, Rs one crore will be kept aside for the same purpose,” he said.
Basavaraju, secretary, Kannada and Culture Department, said more than 17,500 artistes in the State benefited from the honorarium provided by the government, and in the present financial year, around new 1,600 artistes had been added to the list of beneficiaries.

The Karnataka Janapada Parishath was started by H L Nagegowda in 1979 with the aim of preserving, propagating and rejuvenating the folk culture.

The website has description of various dance and music art forms of the State along with related photographs.

An exclusive page has been dedicated to Janapada Loka, a folk space near Ramanagar.
