'Trains to run from Oct 15'

Work on the washed-away tracks near Yeramaras-Chikkasugur and Yemmiganur- Mantralaya is on at war footing, and will be set right soon.

Addressing reporters on Wednesday at the Chikkasugur village, where the railway track was washed away due to heavy rains last week, the minister said that one line (from Wadi-Chikkasugur) will be operational from October 9.

The total loss to railway department is about Rs 35 crore; repair work has been begun at a cost of Rs 10 crore.

Pending projects

Muniyappa said that he would discuss ongoing railway projects in the State with Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and added that land acquisition was the main hurdle in all projects.

The minister said that the State will get more trains, in addition to the eight trains that have already been sanctioned.

“The pending Raichur- Gadwal railway line is nearly 58.3 km long; of this, 36.06-km track is in Andhra Pradesh, and the other 22. 04 km is in Karnataka   The total cost of the project is Rs 198 crore, but only 10 crores has been given,” he said, explaining the reason for delay in the project.
