David, Desna bag 100M crowns

David Biju of Clarence High School and Desna Shroff of Vidyashilp Academy claimed the Senior boys’ and girls’ 100M titles respectively in the athletics event of the 2nd Herbalife Bangalore Schools Games at the Sree Kanteerava stadium on Wednesday.

David clocked 11.6 seconds to emerge the fastest athlete of the meet and pocket the gold. Ryan International School’s Lochan, who was 0.2 seconds behind Biju, took home the silver in 11.8. Lochan’s school-mate Devanshu had to be content with the bronze, clocking 12.0 seconds.

Fifteen-year-old Biju was thrilled after winning the title which eluded him in the inaugural edition in 2010. “It’s an awesome feeling to win. I was very determined this time as I had a false start and was disqualified when I participated the first time,’’ the 10th standard student added.

In the girls’ 100M final, Desna Shroff powered home to clinch the gold with a timing of 13.1 seconds. Kavya Jacob of Bangalore Schools Sports Foundation (BSSF) grabbed the silver in 13.4 while Brigade School’s Gargi Shivaram won the bronze at 13.5.
