Four youths were killed on the spot and four others sustained severe injuries when a sand-laden tractor in which they were travelling collided head-on with a Bijapur-bound lorry on Hubli-Sholapur highway, near Hallikeri Maddi in the taluk on Wednesday.
The dead are Davalsaab Mehboobsaab Savatagi, 25, Davalsaab Imamsaab, Ugaragola, 22, Davalsaab Hussain Saab Mulgunda, 20 and Vinoda Venkatesha Mulimani, 20.
The injured are Imamsaab Kushtagi of Horakeri Oni, Vijaykumar Mulimani, Daval Saab Koti and Kashinatha Shinde and they have been admitted to the KIMS Hospital in Hubli.
The youth were transporting the sand from Gulagadi in Ron Taluk.
