Two youths barged into a paying guest (PG) accommodation in Adugodi and robbed three girl students from Christ University of cash, jewellery and electronic gadgets after threatening to molest them.

One of the students suffered minor injuries in the incident that took place early Wednesday, police sources said.

Around 4 am, the unidentified youths, who came in a white car, stopped near the Sri Sai PG accommodation located at Chikkalakshmi Layout, opposite Christ University. Minutes later, two girls in the PG facility heard knocks on the doors of their second floor room.

When they opened the door, the duo barged in and latched the door. They threatened the two computer science students at knifepoint and forced them to part with their mobile phones, laptops, jewellery and cash.

The duo searched the room and attacked one of the girls when she protested. The girl fell on the floor and suffered minor injuries.

While they were leaving the building, another student living in a room on the lower floor opened the door on hearing some noise. The duo sneaked into her room, threatened to molest her and robbed her of valuables. The three victims are from different states, the sources said.

CCTV footages

Later, the three girls lodged a complaint with the Adugodi police.

The CCTV installed near the compound of the PG hostel has captured the images of a car that was parked nearby at around 4 am. The building has a staircase from the outside. The security guard on duty was unaware of the incident as he was reportedly sleeping when the incident took place.

The police suspect that two men may have climbed the staircase and entered the second floor, before barging into the room shared by two of the victims.

A senior officer handling the case told Deccan Herald that a case of extortion under Section 384 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.

He said the reports suggest that persons known to the girls may be involved in the incident. The PG facility owner reportedly tried to hush up the matter and allegedly warned the victims against lodging a police complaint.

‘Keep mum’

He reportedly threatened them that he would see to it that they never got an accommodation in the locality if they made the incident public.

The victims’ parents, it is said, contacted their daughters and advised them not to speak about the incident.

Around 25 women stay at the PG hostel. There are quite a few PG facilities for women in the area and most of them lack security. A girl in a PG hostel in the area was allegedly sexually assaulted some time ago.

“We are very scared. Residents will speak ill of us if they get to know about the incident. We want the owner and the local police to ensure protection for us,” one of the residents of Sri Sai PG hostel said.
