Govt twists figures to hide failures: ;Malhotra

Last Updated 21 November 2012, 20:45 IST

Leader of opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijay Kumar Malhotra on Wednesday charged the state government with turning the national capital into a virtual gas chamber.

Every day around 23 people die of breathing problems in the Capital because of the high pollution levels for which the government is solely responsible, Malhotra said.

“The government has no clear-cut policy regarding controlling pollution and improving the environment. And, to hide its criminal negligence, it is now juggling with statistics telling people that Delhiites are growing rich,” said Malhotra while referring to Delhi’s economic statistical figures released on Tuesday. The veteran leader also said that due to the government’s laxity, the pollution level in water has also gone up many folds.

“Delhi Jal Board (DJB) headed by Delhi chief minister has spent crores of rupees in last 14 years but it has miserably failed to clean the Yamuna. Yamuna has become more polluted and the air has  become poisonous,” he said.
