Leopard spotted in Somwarpet

Residents of Karkalli village, which is not far from Somwarpet town were stunned to see a wild leopard in the village on Thursday.

According to sources, Punith, a villager saw a leopard passing nearby road and entering into a bush at 8.30 in the morning. Another resident Mary amma also claimed to have seen the animal.

Soon afterwards, fear gripped Karkalli villagers and as a result, they did not send their kids to anganwadi which is not far from the bushes, where the animal was spotted.
Forest staffs stay

A team lead by Regional Forest Officer Kariappa and his staff visited the village and seached the area. They have directed the residents not to shout and disturb the wild animal. 

Kariappa also directed the department staff to stay in village to inspect the movements of leopard and he assured to chase the leopard by night by blasting crackers. “No dogs disappeared or found eaten,” he said. Police Sub-Inspector Ravikiran also visited the village.
