A 17-year-old girl was shot dead and her mother injured by their former tenant after they stopped him from urinating near the stairs of their house in south east Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin.

Police have identified the accused and are raiding places to nab him. According to police, Binno alias Gudiya, of Alvi Chowk E-Block, died on the spot, while her 40-year-old mother Sadmani is undergoing treatment at AIIMS Trauma Centre.

Binno’s 14-year-old brother and father, Aslam, were away when the incident took place around 10 pm on Wednesday. Aslam works as caretaker with Vatika banquet hall near Pragati Maidan.

Family members said that Binno and Sadmani were laying the table for dinner when they spotted 28-year-old Javed loitering outside the house.

“They served the food and switched on the  television when Javed arrived with a friend. The friend stood at a distance while Javed stood near the stairs leading to the house and began relieving himself,” a relative said.

Not paying heed

Binno and Sadmani went out and shouted at him asking him to go away, but Javed did not pay heed to them.  After that the three had an argument which soon turned ugly and Javed went away for a few minutes, threatening them with dire consequences.

“When he returned, he called out their names, whipped out a pistol and opened fire at Binno and Sadmani. Binno was shot twice while her mother sustained one bullet,” a police officer said.

Hearing them scream, neighbours gathered at the spot and rushed them to AIIMS Trauma Centre. “Binno was declared brought dead while Sadmani is battling for life in the Intensive Care Unit,” the officer added.

A case of murder has been registered at Hazrat Nizammuddin Police Station. Another police officer added that Javed has a few criminal cases registered against him including an attempt to murder case. “We have launched a manhunt for Javed and his friend,” the officer added.
