“This is a justified demand as the LS election results in the State are an expression of the people’s lack of confidence in the Left Front. It has no right to continue in the office. I shall strive to ensure that an early Assembly election is held here,” she told newsmen here at her South Kolkata residence.

Reiterating that her party would support a secular Government at the Centre, Ms Banerjee said it would be her endeavour to persuade the UPA for the State’s development. “I am not against industry. I want both industry and agriculture. But the CPM wanted to foist its wishes by force. They do not have any vision and want only to create confusion and contradiction,” she said. Rejoicing over her victory, the TMC chief claimed that despite so many brutal killings and the Left’s efforts to stop people from voting, “we have won. I want to dedicate this victory to those who braved the Marxist terror to cast their ballot and those who fell to CPM bullets.”

Earlier, the CPM did not allow people to vote. This time, the TMC requested the people to insist on their right to vote. And the success lay in the people’s determination to bring in a change, she said. The party’s sustained movement against the forcible land acquisition issue also played a significant role, she conceded.
