Race against time

But he is definitely not a chatterbox. Always in search of fresh adventures, Anaji, who once wanted to celebrate 50 days of his film Snehana Preetina in Bangkok, has grabbed hold of director Prashanth. And who is this Prashanth? The very same man, who directed Mohanlal in Bhagwan, the film made in 19 hours!

Now, the duo are attempting a Guinness world record, come Sunday, with Sugreeva. To be shot for 18 hours at a stretch on the outskirts of Bangalore, this ‘urban family thriller’ has Shivanna in the main role with Yajna Shetty, Chiranjeevi Sarja, Harish Raj and around 35 other actors. Open to experimenting, Shivanna, we heard, has halved his fee for this film! A film of this kind needs detailed planning. “Of course, it has! While getting the digital imaging work done for Preethse Preethse in Chennai, I chanced upon this man Prashanth. I learnt that he had made a film in 19 hours already. If such a film is possible, then why not a film in 18 hours?” Anaji’s eyes shine, recollecting the incident that took place over eight months ago... “Since then, we have been planning for Sugreeva. It is a family film too and has three fights. We have erected eight different sets on the premises of the Raja Rajeshwari Hospital on Mysore Road... we begin shooting at 6 am on Sunday and will wrap it up by 12 midnight the same day!” Anaji’s voice and eyes has grown big, with the excitement.

Assisting Prashanth will be namma directors Om Prakash, P N Sathya, Nagashekhar, Pramod Chakravarthy (who has also readied the script), Anantu, Viji, Raghava Loki, Tushara Ranganath and Pandu, ‘supervised’ by Madesh and Mussanje Mahesh. Helping them will be cinematographers Vishnu, Shekhar Chandra, Satya Hegde, R Giri, Suresh Babu, M R Seenu, Krishna, Niranjan Babu, Venus Murthy and Suresh (Giri). Thirty assistant directors, 30 assistant cameramen and 30 art assistants will join 150 light-boys and assistants! Make-up artistes are numbered at 36! Ramnarayan has written dialogues while Gurukiran has provided the music.

But how will the actors cope with all the hustle-bustle on Sunday? “We have scheduled a two-day rehearsal on the October 9 and 10 for all the unit members before we get cracking on Sunday morning. All of them will be ready by then. We will make it,” Anaji declares.

Shivanna has the enviable task of flitting in between the sets, giving a shot, listening to the dialogues for the next one, all the while wiping off the make-up and changing into yet another costume. Harish Raj plays a lover boy who is forced to help Shivanna.
Says Prashanth, “In Bhagwan, Mohanlal had to contend with a single costume. But Shivanna is more energetic. I am confident that he will meet this challenge very well. Unlike Bhagwan, Sugreeva has all commercial elements... it is a challenge for me as well!”
Here’s hoping the challenge is met and Sugreeva comes off with flying colours.
