“Docomo, in partnership with us, plans to set up an R&D unit in India. The Japanese operator is keen to develop value added services which will be available to Tata-Docomo customers,” Tata Tele Managing Director Anil Sardana said.

Asked about the location of the R&D facility, he said the company has been scouting for a suitable place across the country and our main interest is to locate it in southern India, Sardana said. The company also launched its  GSM services in the city.

Docomo has altogether five R&D centres across the globe – two in Japan and one each in the US, Europe and China. The Indian facility will match the international standard. The company would be investing about Rs 9,700 crore in the next two years for the GSM network rollout across the country.
