Davangere ITF meet from Dec 3

The ITF Davangere Open men’s Futures tournament will begin at the Tennis Complex courts in Government High School grounds here on Monday.

The tournament will be followed by events at Dharwad (Dec 10-15) and at Belgaum (Dec 17-22).

National champion Jeevan Nedunchezhian of Tamil Nadu, Davis Cupper Sanam Singh, Sriram Balaji, who heads the direct entry list with 320 points, Ranjeet Virali Murugesan, Vijayant Malik, Vijay Sunder Prashant, Kaza Viayak Sharma, Siddarth Rawat and Ashwin Vijayaragahvan are the top Indian players in the fray. Sergei Krotiouk of Russia leads the foreign challenge.

“It is an honour that international tennis is returning to the district after 10 years. It would be a treat for the people of Davangere, especially the youngsters, to witness a world-class event,” Pattan Shetty IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Davangere, and chairman of the organising committee, told the media here on Wednesday.

Karnataka No 1 Sagar Manjanna has received the first wild card entry for the tournament. Other three wild cards will be announced later.
