Uddhav against taking over as Sena supremo

The Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray in an party meeting held late on Saturday stated that he would continue to hold the post but declined to succeed his
father the late Bal Thackeray as the Sena “pramukh” (supremo).

Giving details of the decisions taken in the meeting attended by top leaders, the party mouthpiece “Saamna” in its Sunday edition stated that while Uddhav has refused to don the mantle of his father, “but he would be taking all decisions.”

Party spokesperson, Rajya Sabha MP and executive editor of “Saamna” Sanjay Raut further informed that on the issue of the construction of a memorial for Bal Thackeray, Uddhav made it very clear that he sees it as a “needless controversy.”

Instead of dwelling upon the controversy, Uddhav told party leaders that it was time to move forward and work for the region. Uddhav is all set to embark on a tour of nearby regions from Monday and has planned a state-wide extensive tour beginning January-February to take stock of the situation at the grassroot level.

Talking about his late father, Uddhav informed the gathering that the senior Thackeray’s condition started deteriorating after his second angioplasty on November 4.

He also told party leaders and workers: “It is time to overcome grief and move ahead to fulfil my father’s dream of making Maharashtra a strong and progressive state.”
