Namdhari's custody extended

Last Updated 02 December 2012, 19:59 IST

Sacked Uttarakhand minorities commission chairman Sukhdev Singh Namdhari was sent to three days of  police custody till December 5 after the investigators sought time from the court on Sunday citing that they have to interrogate him further to be able to nab his associates.

Namdhari  was arrested on November 23 and was later charged with murder of Hardeep Chadha who was killed along with his elder brother Liquor baron Ponty Chadha, in the deadly gunfight, at a Chattarpur farmhouse on Nov 17.

The investigators claim that the associates were also involved in altering and cleaning the pistol used to commit the crime.

The police on Sunday booked Namdhari in additional charge of dealing with destruction of evidence.

Metropolitan magistrate Sunil Beniwal extended Namdhari’s custody so that the cops can seek his help in tracing other accused — who were found absconding when the police party raided their hideouts in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand — and also to recover the vehicles used for the offence.
