Garbage strewn across the city, plastic bags and vehicles emitting smoke that are hazardous to health are not the only ones contributing to air pollution but open drains at many places in the city, emanating stench, force the people to close their nostrils in haste.

Vehicle riders on the road connecting Arakalgud were suffering due to the tepid smell for long. Thankfully the problem has been brought under control now. Similar situation can be seen at many places in the city.

Passengers arriving at the new bus stand in the early hours are welcomed by the unbearable smell, thanks to the clogged drains at all the three entrances. Lush growth of weeds have covered the    drains hindering the flow of waste water.

The K R Puram drain that carries dirty water from many layouts flows around a majority of the areas spreading the stench. This drain flows right inside the Chippinakatte government PU college premises, but thankfully is covered with cement slabs and also proceeds towards Hunasinakere and other areas.

These areas are already congested and the residents have not even spared the drains and have encroached major parts and seems to have got used to the stench living there for years.

As the construction of the drains are taken under various projects, some parts of the drain have not been repaired as it has become difficult to  identify as nobody knows under which project the drain comes under.

People walking with their nostrils closed in many parts of the city is a common scene due to these drains. But ironically, around Rs 91 lakh has been spent to cover the drains.
