'Details on Mangala Corniche within a week'

Mangalore Urban Development Authority Chairman Ramesh S has said that complete details on the first phase of Mangala Corniche will be published within a week, to create awareness among the public.

He was speaking after the students of Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University presented a power point presentation on the development of regions situated on the banks of river Nethravathi and Gurpura here on Tuesday.

He said initial project report on Mangala Corniche has been prepared. The estimated cost of the project will be Rs 3,500 crore to Rs 4,000 crore. However, Rs eight crore income can be fetched once the project is implemented.

In the first phase, Sulthan Battery, Car Street, Old Port and Morgans Gate area will be developed. The area covering first phase will be 12 km. The ring road will be 30 km-long.
Under the guidance of Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University Head P V K Parameshwaran presented the project report.

Speaking on the occasion, Assembly Deputy Speaker N Yogish Bhat said that CEPT has prepared similar project in Gujrath. The students of the University have prepared the report by making a study for three months.

The ring road will be 30 metre. The Corniche will connect three national highways, NMPT and airport.

Bhat said that road will be built in such a way as to avoid the problem with CRZ. The project is in its survey stage. A detailed project report will be prepared. The ambitious project will be taken up on PPP mode, he added.

Deputy Commissioner N Prakash, Mayor Gulzar Banu and others were present.
