JOIN USTaking a strong view of 14 of its MLAs attending the Karnataka Janata Party rally at Haveri on Sunday, the BJP central leadership has decided to give its approval for the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly, provided such a request comes from the State unit.
“The party high command will not advise Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to dissolve the Assembly. But, if the recommendation comes from him and the State unit, we will give our approval for it,” said a senior BJP leader here.
However, as a face saving measure, the BJP top brass directed the State leaders to take action against all those who attended the KJP rally, including the 14 MLAs.
“As there are differences among the party’s Karnataka unit leaders on dissolution of the Assembly, we want the request to come from the State unit,” the leader said adding that the same had been conveyed to the chief minister.
The Central leaders always favoured the dissolution of the Assembly, instead of allowing the Yeddyurappa camp to cause further damage. At Friday’s core committee meeting, BJP national president Nitin Gadkari is learnt to have advised the State leaders to take stern action against the dissidents irrespective of what happens to the government.
Expressing surprise over the 14 MLAs attending the rally despite the warning issued by the party on Saturday, the Central leader said “the issue is serious and there is a crisis in the government.”
