FDI vote: TDP reluctant to act against absent MPs

Last Updated 10 December 2012, 19:44 IST

Almost a day after Rajya Sabha member Sujana Choudhary sent his resignation, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) failed to initiate action against him or the other two RS members who had failed to vote for the opposition-sponsored motion against FDI in retail.

Choudhary resigned on Sunday taking moral responsibility for the “inadvertent mistake”.
The party had to face some embarrassing questions in the wake of the failure by Choudhary and the other two members T Devender Goud and G Sudha Rani, who failed to show up in the House to vote on the motion.

N Harikrishna and CM Ramesh were the only two of the five TDP Rajya Sabha members to vote on the motion.

Choudhary, a leading industrialist and a close confidante of the TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, said “I am pained over the continued criticism by some party leaders though I have already apologized for my mistake of abstaining from the voting.”

“I will continue to serve the party with the same dedication and commitment,” he said, as the row over the fiasco continues.
