In a continued campaign against chain snatching, city police have launched yet another experiment. Beginning from Vidyaranyapuram police limits, posters of chain snatchers photos are put up at prominent junctions.

The intention is to create awareness among the people, especially women folk who are easily falling prey to the robbers. Photographs of 88 chain snatchers available in ‘MO’ records (modus operandi) form the total 300 posters and are put up at Chamundipuram circle, Kanakagiri, Chamundi Vanam, Andani Circle, near parks and temples. There are nearly 25 to 30 parks.

In the last one week, four chain snatching cases have been reported in the afore said police limits alone, while the total number of cases reported till November in the city has already crossed 100.
Vidyaranyapuram, Kanakagiri, Gundurao Nagar, J P Nagar, Siddalingeshwara Layout, Visvesvaraiah Industrial Sub-urb, Navodaya, outer-ring-road, Srirampura grama panchayat limits and Nachanahalli Palya are the localities in the jurisdiction.

The thrust is on public places, with more impetus on parks and temples where people conglomerate in large numbers. Some among the offenders in the photos are out on bail, while some are still cooling their heels behind the bars.

Police commissioner K L Sudheer told Deccan Herald, they have started from Vidyaranyapuram and studying its impact. Nearly 250 to 300 police are patrolling only to prevent chain snatching. Women police are distributing pamphlets of do’s and don’ts. Of the total number of cases registered till date, majority of them are solved with the arrest of the accused.

Earlier, boards of do’s and don’ts to women had been put up at all the prominent junctions in the city.
