A college student and five others were injured when a senior citizen driving his car on the wrong side of the road rammed into a cycle rickshaw and another car at north Delhi’s Maurice Nagar on Monday, police said.

Shreya Dwivedi, 19, a second-year student at Hansraj College, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Police said Jai Prakash Bansal, 65, was allegedly driving his Honda Civic on the wrong side of Chhatra Marg around 3 pm.

“Shreya, who is a hosteller, was travelling from Patel Chest Institute to Chattra Marg on a cycle rickshaw when Bansal’s car rammed head-on into it,” a police official said.

While Shreya fell and slid under the Civic, rickshaw puller Parmanand Singh fell on the other side of the pavement and hurt his forehead.

Bansal lost control and also hit a Mahindra Xylo right behind the rickshaw. SUV occupants Ayushi Jain, Anjali Sharma and Gurmal Singh, and Parmanand were discharged after first aid.
Bansal was arrested at the spot and he will have to take a blood test to ascertain whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of accident.

46-year-old killed

A man was killed after he was apparently hit by an unknown vehicle while crossing a road in west Delhi’s Nangloi. Jai Singh, 46, who hailed from Haryana’s Mahendergarh district, was crossing a road near Rajdhani Park Metro station at 12.05 am on Tuesday when the accident took place.

Police rushed him to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead.
