Last Updated 13 December 2012, 19:23 IST

Karnataka pacer R Vinay Kumar has replaced injured Lakshmipathi Balaji in the Indian Twenty20 squad for the two matches against England after picking up a foot injury.

“L Balaji has suffered a stress injury to his right big toe, and has been ruled out of the T20 International series against England, as a result,” BCCI Secretary Sanjay Jagdale said in a statement.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has picked R Vinay Kumar as his replacement in the Indian team,” he added.

Balaji, who was part of India’s squad for the World T20 in Sri Lanka, had been performing decently in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, picking up 11 wickets in four matches for Tamil Nadu.

Vinay has also been in good form, having taken 17 wickets for Karnataka in four Ranji Trophy matches this season.

Broad out of T20s

Stuart Broad, England’s Twenty20 captain, on Thursday was ruled out of the T20 series with a bruised left heel.  Eoin Morgan will captain the side in Broad’s absence. Broad will return home immediately to begin a period of rest and rehabilitation, the team management said.
James Harris will replace Broad in the squad.
