The Congress, which had won six seats in 2006, could bag only one with Union minister Subodh Kant Sahay defeating BJP’s Ram Choudhary in the Ranchi LS seat by 13,280 votes.

Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantric) candidate and former chief minister Babulal Marandi was the lone winner of his party, defeating the CPI (ML-Liberation) candidate Raj Kumar Yadav by 48,520 votes.

The convincing wins by former minister Madhu Koda and ex-Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari as Independent candidates has proved that Independents can have an important role to play in future state politics.

Koda won the Singhbhum (ST) seat by over 85,000 votes, defeating six-time MP and Congress nominee Bagun Sumbrai. Former Bihar minister and RJD candidate Nagmani, who rebelled and fell out with Bihar CM Nitish Kumar following denial of ticket bit the dust, losing to Namdhari by 16,176 from Chatra Lok Sabha seat.

Former state Speaker and independent candidate Inder Singh Namdhari tasted victory from Chatra in his third attempt, trouncing RJD candidate Nagmani by 16,176 votes.
BJP candidates Arjun Munda, Nishikant Dubey, Ravindra Pandey and Debidhan Besra are leading in Jamshedpur, Godda, Giridih and Raj Mahal Lok Sabha seats respectively as counting of votes are still on.

Former Jharkhand CM Babulal Marandi, who had floated Jharkhand Vikas Morcha after snapping ties with BJP in 2007, retained the Koderma LS seat defeating CPI-ML(L) candidate Rajkumar Yadav by 48,520 votes. JMM president Shibu Soren won Dumka LS seat as well as the Jamtara assembly bypoll defeating BJP rival Tarun Kumar Gupta by 17,632 votes.

JMM’s Kamshewar Baitha is leading from Palamau by 21,581 votes over his RJD rival Ghuran Ram after the completion of the 20th round. Congress candidates Union minister Subodh Kant Sahay and Chandrasekhar Dubey are leading from Ranchi and Dhanbad seats, respectively.
