Bengal take slender lead

Last Updated 16 December 2012, 17:28 IST

Bengal opener Arindam Das scored a fighting 73 to give his side a slender one-run first innings lead against Hyderabad but the visiting team’s batsmen showed a lot of gumption to take an overall lead of 171 with three wickets in hand on a Eden Gardens green top in a Ranji Trophy Group A match on Sunday.

The match is expected to be over on the third day on Monday and Hyderabad are favourites to win considering the spineless nature of Bengal batting which has even failed to score 200 on a number of occasions this season.

Anwar Ahmed (5-44) and Ashish Reddy (5-51) shared the spoils for Hyderabad. Akshat Reddy (49) and Ashish (42) shone for Hyderabad in their second innings. Shami Ahmed claiming 4-68.
