Fire, civil force to help in relief works

Announcing this at a press briefing on Friday here, P S Sandhu, IGP-Fire and Emergency Services said, “Over 1,800 people from an integrated force are currently providing assistance to the government’s disaster response mechanism. In addition to 1,282 home guards deployed, two personnel from home guards and two from the fire force have been assisting officials in every district headquarter to support control rooms. 37 civil defence volunteers are carrying out relief work in Bellary and Bagalkot districts. We have rescued 161 people who were marooned and retrieved 19 bodies so far”.

In his address, Maj Gen John (Retd), Chief Warden of Civil Defence said, “The need of the hour at affected areas is quick-response. Every emergency situation calls for improvements that can be incorporated in  our operations.

The Civil Defence will be inaugurating two new divisions in the City, one each at Vijaynagar and Frazer Town.
